EFCA, the European Federation of Concrete Admixture Associations, was formed in 1984. It currently represents the National admixture associations of 11 countries with a total membership that is thought to provide in excess of 80% of admixture sales within Europe and represents all the major admixture manufacturers. The Federation initially focused on European Standardisation work for admixtures, leading to the publication of the EN 934 series of standards. This was undertaken by the EFCA Technical Committee.
During the last 10 years the EFCA TC has placed increasing emphasis on promoting the use of admixtures as a normal and essential ingredient of high quality, durable concrete. Admixtures are seen as the key to many innovative developments, such as 'Self-Compacting Concrete', that will maintain concrete as a modern and sustainable construction material.
